In the early 1980s, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. was established as a joint capital investment with the Mitsubishi Corporation. The Mitsubishi Motors Sales Corporation took over operations soon after. Car production was terminated at Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. in 2015. In 2016, MMC and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. joined forces in a strategic alliance agreement regarding capital and business alliances.
